Hey, I just bought a projector and it have a sweet burnt smell. Is it formaldehyde? The item is from the mid 50's and my other vintage cameras I bought have a similar sweet burnt smell to it. Like this Canon rangefinder I got, the cover felt like leather but it is hard like plastic.

And again, the question is, Are old things coated with FORMALDEHYDE?

I bought a vintage stereo camera with stereo slides and projector plus its crystal like touch roll-up textile (plastic?) screen, but the screen by time or other reason became slightly yellowish.
How could it be cleaned without damage?

Thanks!

Would that plugged nickel be around 18 to 20k?

Hey, I was thinking of making a movie theater in my room, I have a cool vintage looking popcorn machine, and a projector. I was wondering if anyone had any idea how to make a real movie theater like seat out of folding chairs because I think that would really make it so much better! Or some other way to make seats that look like movie theater ones for not too much money.
thanks!

My idea is that I will hand out invitations that specify a choice of two different old movie actors and actresses (like, "you can either come as Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's or Anthony Perkins from Psycho") and I will give a picture and description of what that person looks like. The guests have to come dressed up as that person, and once we are at the party everyone has to guess who everyone else is. The person who gets the most right gets a prize. We then take some pictures in our costumes, play some games, and then watch a few old movies on a projector. Everyone will be asked to bring their own lawn chairs. This will be my sweet 16 and I will be inviting about 15 people. Do you have any comments, suggestions, or critiques for this idea?
No I wouldn't mind at all!

Thanks for the Charlie Chaplin and Rita Hayworth ideas guys!

I just pulled out my parents old 1940's vintage Ampro 8mm projector, oiled it, and was pleased to find it in great working order. Unfortunately, when I tried to show our old home movies of 1940-70 vintage, they were very dark. I think the film has deteriorated. Can it be lightened and put on DVD or some other new medium? Where would I go to have this done?

My mother, born in the 1960's talks about a toy that she used to have as a child. It was some sort of projector/slide show thing, it would play a song and have slides that went with it, or something to that effect. Every time she hears the song "Long Black Veil" she is reminded of that toy. If possible, I would like to find out what the name of it was, so that I can possibly track one down for her. If anyone has any idea what Im talking about and can give me more information, I would appreciate it.
Thanks in advance.

Welcome!
